BF2 Mods : Forgotten Hope 2 Update
Íàïèñàë Widowmaker â 03/01/2009 10:04:35 (9 ïðî÷òåíèé)
BF2 Mods

On then to the actual news. Today we have renders of 3 more German vehicles for our Normandy Theater of War. The first of these is the Opel Blitz. This vehicle model is only slightly different from the Africa version, but it's got a brand new skin. The Opel Blitz was made by Mange, Jimbob and Toddel.

Next up is the Schwimmwagen. You may remember this amphibious Volkswagen from Forgotten Hope 0.7. The Schwimmwagen was originally made by Rad, updated for use in Forgotten Hope 2 by Toddel and coded by Gunnie.

The last renders for today are of the Tiger I (Late). This is not simply a reskin of the African Tiger; this is a completely new model. The easiest way to tell the difference between an early and a late tiger is by looking at the commander's cupola. The early Tiger I has a high drum cupola, whereas the late Tiger I has short cast cupola. The wheels are also significantly different, as the early Tiger I has 3 rubber-rimmed wheels per axle, while the late Tiger I has only 2 steel-rimmed wheels per axle. There are many more differences, so feel free to have a look at the render of the Tiger I (early) again to see if you can spot them.

The Tiger I (Late) was modeled by K96, skinned by Toddel and coded by ctz.

That's all for this week, but be sure to come back next time for another update. Until then, feel free to visit our IRC channel and our public forums to discuss this update and other news.

BF2 News : Patch 1.5 Update
Íàïèñàë Widowmaker â 03/01/2009 9:50:27 (16 ïðî÷òåíèé)
BF2 News

Here is another update on the upcoming patch. This a concise version of a Total Battlefield interview with DICE in Sweden:

The map, the name not yet released, accompanying the Patch 1.5 is designed to be intense like Karkand, but huge in a Chinese setting. DICE is putting the finishing touches on the BF2 1.5 Patch Beta which is due out early this next year.

Aerial combat between the J10 and the F35 is being balanced by the reducing the turning ability of the J10. BF2 server security and stability are being enhanced and a new account verification process to reduce name/ID spoofing will be included in the Patch. In addition, the developers are closing off some of the hacks to employ improper commander assets.

DICE is always looking to push the limits in game developing. One example is Battlefield’s 64 player limit which is still one of the largest player counts on FPS servers. The minimum specifications required for a computer system to successfully run a video game will always be increasing. We want to make sure as many people as possible get to experience and enjoy our games. Our next release will not be at Battlefield 2 minimum specification levels, but it also won’t demand the highest-end machine on the market either.

DICE is not ruling out a future release with a World War I, World War II, Korean War, or Vietnam War theme. They are looking at the conflict with the biggest appeal to their core players. They "try to listen to their players..." PC gaming and Battlefield are a big part of DICE's history and they intend to "remain faithful to the roots of Battlefield."

There are new features planned for future releases which include new first person animation and destructible scenery. Typically, first person views are camera pivots. In Mirror Edge by DICE, they used a more organic/natural movements.

The interviewer from Total Battlefield phrased a questioned specifically mentioning Sir Community, Project Reality, and Forgotten Hope asking of their impact on the Battlefield series. DICE responded, "The modding community has been a massive boost to Battlefield ove the years ..." Battlefield 2142 included content from modders one of which was Sir Community. "The modding community is an area we would like to support more in the future."

BF2 Mods : Forgotten Hope II Update
Íàïèñàë Widowmaker â 03/07/2008 21:26:42 (1822 ïðî÷òåíèé)
BF2 Mods

Hello and welcome back to another update of Forgotten Hope. Today we will be showing you what we have in store for the Italian army in our upcoming 2.15 patch. As you may know, we already had some Italian equipment in previous versions, but in 2.15 we hope to give the Italian army a more complete arsenal of small arms.

In the first render we have the two Carcano rifles, ported for FH 0.7, which were made by Mc Gibs - The bayonets for the Carcano rifles and the M39 combat knife, made by Seth Soldier and - The Bomba a Mano 35 O.T.O, made by Knoffhoff. In the second render we have the Breda 30 light machinegun, made by Seth Soldier.

The main rifle of the Italian army in the Second World War was the Carcano rifle. There were many variations on this rifle, but the most common were the old M91 (from 1891) and the newer M91/38 (from 1938). Interestingly these rifles use different calibers. The old 6.5mm caliber as used in the M91 was considered to be too weak and was to be replaced with the larger 7.35mm caliber. When the war started though, the adoption of the new caliber was not complete, in fact, even during the war it proved impossible to completely replace the old 6.5mm caliber, so both were used. The M91/38 Carcano is perhaps better known for another role it played in history, as it was the rifle used to assassinate US president John F Kennedy in 1963.

The Breda 30 was the standard light machinegun of the Italian army in World War 2, although production of the weapon had already ceased in 1937. It is widely regarded as an extremely poor machinegun. Its magazine capacity was only 20 rounds (of the weak 6.5mm type) and it fired at a low 500 rounds per minute. Its design was complex, leading to high production costs and due to the blowback system it used it was highly prone to jamming, especially in the African desert.

The Bomba a Mano (hand grenade) 35 O.T.O. is an Italian offensive grenade that exploded on impact. To use the grenade, you would have to pull out the safety strip by the leather handle, unlocking the black safety lever (the cap). When thrown, the safety lever would catch air and be separated from the body, thus unlocking the safety bar between the firing pin and the primer. This mechanism had a tendency not to work however and the grenades were extremely dangerous in their unexploded state, leading to the British giving them the nickname "Red Devils".

That's all for this week, but be sure to come back next time for another update. Until then, feel free to visit our IRC channel and our public forums to discuss this update and other news.
